Museo Reina Sofia
Earlier this year I was approached by one of the curators of the Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid to compose a piece for their new online audio & sound collections; I'd spent a week back in 2012 giving talks & performances around the corner at La Casa Encendida, during which I spent many an hour contemplating the futility of human endeavour in front of "Guernica" - needless to say I jumped at the chance to contribute a work to an institution of such significance.
At the time of the request I was about to leave for Banff for the Convergence residency & knew I would have a bit of time to work on exactly this sort of commission; as expected I managed to allocate a week towards recording & composing a three-part suite of extensively side-chained piano & percussion trios with layers of 1969 Serge Modular & Delta Music Research Synthesizer, named after the natural landmark I gazed upon every day and, eventually, built up the strength to climb to the crest of.
The entirety of the first section (34:30), "Tunnel Mountain, Part 1 (The Dream)", is now available both to stream & download (the latter in a lossless format) from the Radio del Museo Reina Sofia site here:
