Schöner Flußengel (1997-2003) is my so-called “Krautrock” Hauptwerk, as issued on LP by kranky on October 4th, 2004; it has (also) been through multiple pressings (as recent as 2022) & is likely available now from a fine record shop near you (if not, try Discogs) & all of the streaming apps & platforms (YouTube™ embed below/to your right; apologies for the low-res cover!)

SF has its roots in a series of recording sessions carried out between 1997 & 2003 in the oft-flooded basement studio I kept in a shared house in Somerville, MA (as pictured on the rear cover of "Playthroughs"). I had started a job as Sales Manager for Forced Exposure at the beginning of this run & the daily intake of obscure Psych & Experimental Music made an indelible mark on my musical consciousness, which spilled over into this album in a natural way.

Modeled after genre classics by Fille Qui Mousse, Agitation Free, Älgarnas Trädgård, Günter Schickert, Achim Reichel, et.al it was originally slated as a specifically Krautrock-themed Hrvatski release for Mike Martinez' Deluxe label (working title: "Hrvatski '73;" Mike would later turn in a stellar remix for the “rkk13cd”) but quickly shifted away from beat-focused motorik into more of an Electro-Acoustic direction (despite "Weiter's" clear C/K-luster worship).

Trivia: the "Digital" version of "Lixus" was recorded in one take via the same Max-MSP patch I was using to perform the Hrvatski material; I still don't know exactly how I did it! The individual guitar parts were then lined up & turned into the "Analogue" version w/ Jim's drumming. One with a keen eye can spot the subtle homage to Nurse With Wound’s “A Sucked Orange” via the cover-image; the NWW List of course being my magic-gateway into all of this.
