Generator Machine @ MESS
As something of a small measure of contribution to Robin Fox & Byron Scullin's entirely incredible MESS synthesizer workshop-studio - where else in Melbourne, let alone in the world, can you have a go on a Steiner-Parker Synthacon, several Electronic Dream Plant machines, a Moog Music Inc. Model 55, an EMS Synthi AKS & dozens of other elusive, covetable modulars, keyboards, and desktop pieces - I have placed the original "Generator" machine on temporary loan.
This is the core of the system on which I performed exclusively for a few years in the late 2000s, culminating in the "Disingenuity b/w Disingenuousness" LP for PAN, the "Generator" tape for Root Strata & the "Generators" LP for Editions Mego. It consists largely of Doepfer A-100 Analog Modular Synthesizer modules - four oscillators, mixer, 4096 stage analogue delay, spring reverb, 8-bit sampler - along with a control section that allows for cascading, tonal 4-voice canons to be summoned with relative ease & maximum flexibility.
Think of it as a stand-alone "Time Lag Accumulator" - it's great for producing minimalism-inspired music that doesn't loop inasmuchas continuously evolve, constantly revealing new patterns & variations with minor twists of a few knobs. It also excels at producing animated pads & textures; honestly I can & have listened to this thing cascade into the horizon for hours - and now you can too.
It is now available to book to all MESS members; look for it under "The Generator" on the bookings page ::
