Al Niente: Utkanj invites...
Tune into the Istanbul-based online station Root Radio this coming Sunday at exactly 18:00 GMT+3 (that’s 11AM EST, 8AM PST) to hear a new hour-long mix (“4 Phases of 4,” after the “Tourist” repackaging of Chelique Sarabia’s “Revolución Electrónica En Música Venezolana”) assembled at the behest of Resident Utkan Akcay. This is a fairly processing-heavy mix, in which selections are run through one of four signal chains, yielding a seamless mix of American Early Electronics, Catalan Sound Poetry, Quebecois Industrial, & Finnish Minimal Synth via four discrete signal paths, or “Lanes”.
I’ve been on something of a tear recently with both the music-research & mix-making sides of things, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need something of this nature (or if you want to rekindle a request for said that you’d made in the past that I either ignored, or simply wasn’t able to fulfill… until now) but this is one of my favorites; a true experiment from top to bottom.
Update: based on the conversations I’ve had over the last couple of days, people seemed to tune in & dig this one; echoing the mix here (below) along with the Tracklisting (left column covers the first 20 minutes; right the other 40) for posterity…
