It might seem antithetical (esp. coming from an avid collector that has spent their life in the trenches of independent music distribution) but I haven’t worked with a record label, nor issued records of my own music in some time. There are of course decades of these to be had via kranky, Planet-µ, Editions Mego, PAN, etc. but other than the reissue-program Hino organized a few years back, I’ve been forgoing the tangible* entirely in favor of an ongoing stream of themed suites launched with accelerating frequency via Bandcamp.

As much of the music I’m interested in making these days is derived from autonomous, self-governing frameworks, I’ve found that this method of sharing unexpurgated transcriptions excerpted from essentially infinite timelines best serves the conceptual ideas at play; best to think of all of this as more of an “Audio Diary” documenting novel systems as they’re uncovered & unlocked, less a series of master-statements engineered to weather scrutiny. I love art that exists solely to instill & perpetuate a specific mood or energy & it’s been liberating to deny the marketplace’s insistence on making concessions to the average attention-span. If I had it my way these would all be hours long; many already are.

I recommend sorting the $30/year Subscription over purchasing or grabbing things individually, as this grants immediate access to everything I post; the steady stream of resources this creates goes a long way towards supporting my creative endeavours from day-to-day & other than revenue from performing, studio/production work, & the occasional sync/license this constitutes the majority of my income from music:

* I still dream of making records, often; even toy w/ the idea from time-to-time & spec out manufacturing scenarios before realizing this is a task best wagered by someone with a more contemporary grasp on current market dynamics. That said, if you’re involved with an established label & have some degree of confidence that you can pull off both a well-considered edition & the marketing coup necessary to make sure they’re all housed & accounted for, by all means Get In Touch. I’ve always loved the press & promotions side of things, chatting with music writers, soliciting distributors & shops; certainly my aversion here isn’t an allergy to any facet of that, just an acknowledgement of my own limitations…
